Top Ten Cars of the Decade Countdown 1 Toyota Prius

2009 Toyota Prius2009_toyota_priusThe name Prius is practically synonymous with the word hybrid nowadays. The Kleenex and Xerox versions of the Hyrbid World, the silhouette itself instantly brings to mind the word “hybrid”. The first generation Prius hit U.S. shores in 2001, but it was the second generation’s arrival in 2004 that made hybrid history. Bringing gasoline-electric technology to the masses, the second generation Prius took the green craze and really ran with it.

With fuel economy claims as high as 55 combined miles per gallon (largely dependent on driving technique), the Prius was a fuel-saving wonder. Whether or not these claims were completely accurate, the hype this Prius generated gave Toyota the sales they needed to make the third generation even better.

Arriving early in 2009, the 2010 Toyota Prius has picked up where the previous model left off and has taken things to even greater heights. Now with a combined 134 horsepower from its 1.8-liter gasoline and electric motor, the Prius feels like any other car on the highway. And of course, the 2010 Prius gets even better mileage than before. Achieving 50 combined miles per gallon, the third generation Prius is still king of the fuel efficiency hill. With the ever increasing demand for hybrid vehicles, you can expect the Toyota Prius to still be around in 2010 and beyond.
